(Leavenworth, Kan.) – The University of Saint Mary Online Master of Social Work program has extended its commitment to addressing some of society’s most pressing needs by expanding social work education across the state of Kansas.

While there is a dire shortage of social workers in the state, Kansas did not have any mechanism for graduates of online programs to obtain licensure. Thanks to the advocacy of the University of Saint Mary and its allies in the legislature, including Representatives Barb Wasinger, John Eplee, Steven Howe, and Senator Jeff Pittman, online education is now a reality for future social workers in Kansas.

“Our 100 percent online MSW at the University of Saint Mary will help fill the severe shortage in social workers across the state and nation as we train the next generation of social work professionals in our quality online MSW program,” Program Director Dr. Joe Squillace said.

In February, USM also achieved candidacy status from the Council for Social Work Education. This step in the accreditation process demonstrates USM’s commitment to meeting the compliance standards set by the CSWE, and graduating students can obtain state licensure.

The Saint Mary MSW program has specializations in Health/Mental Health and Forensic Social Work. The curriculum will develop professionals focused on providing services that advance the wellbeing of others, promote social and economic justice, and enhance the lives of the communities and populations they serve.

Student applications are open for August 2023 enrollment. Visit stmary.edu/msw to learn more.
