Continue to grow in your profession by earning a microcredential and/or certificate and gaining practical strategies to enhance flipped, blended, and active learning classrooms. Three summer opportunities are available for USM faculty.

Summer 2025 Courses
Flipped and Blended Teaching Microcredential
This course equips faculty with insights and practical strategies to excel in flipped and blended teaching methods and to gain hands-on experience to adapt to new formats with confidence. Participants will receive a $700 stipend after completing all requirements, including an 8.5-hour online course, on-campus USM Kick-Off Meeting, on-campus Final Culmination Seminar, and evidence of one flipped USM fall class.
Assessing Active Learning Microcredential
This course guides faculty in creating impactful assessments, enhancing critical thinking, and ensuring rigorous learning in active classrooms. Participants will receive a $200 stipend after completing all requirements, including a 5-hour online course, on-campus USM Kick-Off Meeting, on-campus Final Culmination Seminar, and evidence of an active learning assessment in at least one USM fall class.
Teaching Fundamentals Certificate
This program is geared toward newer university-level teachers and presents five fundamentals for effective teaching, regardless of background or discipline, including efficient and effective course design, meaningful student participation in learning, engaging teaching methods, clear and fair assessments, and strategies to connect with students. Participants will receive a $700 stipend after completing all requirements, including a 20-hour online course, on-campus USM Kick-Off Meeting, on-campus Final Culmination Seminar, and evidence of incorporating these techniques in at least one fall USM class.
Requirements
- Complete application by April 21, 2025
- Participate in on-campus Kick-Off Meeting (May date to be determined based on participants availability)
- Enroll and complete online modules by July 11, 2025
- Participate in on-campus Final Culmination Seminar (July date to be determined based on participants availability)
- Evidence of one USM fall class that incorporates what you learned
Application Process
Complete the application before April 21, 2025.
- Provide name, rank, division, discipline, years at USM, and contact information
- Identify how many years of higher education teaching experience you have
- Select which program(s) interest you
- Identify one course you will be teaching in the Fall 2025 semester that you would like to transform through this process
- Indicate any known summer dates you could not attend the required kick-off meeting (May) and culminating seminar (July)
