Headshot of Ally DiasWhat have you been up to since graduating from Saint Mary?

I moved to Shawnee, KS, and have been at Black and Veatch in Overland Park, KS. I also am a part-time assistant softball coach for the University of Saint Mary.

What is your current job or role, and what do you enjoy most about it?

I am a Treasury Associate at Black and Veatch. I enjoy collaborating with different groups within and outside the company. My role requires me to work with banking partners, bond brokers, and various teams internally.

How did your time at Saint Mary prepare you for your career?

There are various aspects Saint Mary has helped me prepare for my career. While I worked as a student worker and graduate assistant in the accounting office on campus, I was able to apply classroom concepts to real work. I learned how to problem solve and work with others in a professional setting. Being a student-athlete at USM helped sharpen my time management skills and stay disciplined towards my goals.

What is a memorable experience you had during your time at Saint Mary?

I had many memorable experiences during my time at Saint Mary with my softball teams each year. Going to the Florida tournament during spring break of my fourth season was definitely a major highlight.

Have you stayed in touch with any of your professors or classmates?

Professor Watlington was my accounting advisor and professor at USM. We have stayed in touch and will occasionally send life updates. Wysdom Grenier is my friend and ex-classmate who went through the accounting undergraduate and graduate programs with me. We worked together in the accounting office as well. We stay in touch very often and have attended alumni events together. I also stay in touch with most of my teammates, including Shelby Mohler, Sadie McWilliams, Victoria Gutierrez, and Josefina Gutierrez.

What advice would you give to current students or recent graduates?

Say yes. I would not have been able to have the awesome job I have if it wasn’t for saying yes to opportunities I did not think I could do.

Are there any achievements or milestones you would like to share with the Saint Mary community?

I got a new (used) car! Whoop!

How do you stay connected with the Saint Mary alumni network?

I attend local alumni events, including the most recent one at Chicken N Pickle. They are always so fun and an awesome time!

What hobbies or interests are you currently pursuing?

Running is a new hobby I have been pursuing. I also like to play pickleball, slow-pitch softball, and anything outdoors.

Do you have any favorite Saint Mary traditions that you still cherish?

One of my favorite Saint Mary traditions is signing our names at the back of “Big Blue” on softball’s Senior Day.
