Meet the USM residence life staff
Chris Hayes has a Bachelor's of Science degree in pharmaceutical science from The Ohio State University and a master of arts in education from the University of Saint Mary.
In his free time, he enjoys working out and playing tennis. This year he looks forward to the opportunity to work with students and help them develop into better, more prepared adults.
Resident Assistants (R.A.’s) are undergraduate members of the school community who are responsible for supervising students on their respective residence hall floors. R.A.’s exist to answer questions about the University, explain and enforce housing policies, refer residents to the appropriate office or staff member, and to provide programming to educate and entertain the residential population at the University of Saint Mary.
A staff member and R.A. are on duty from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily and all day Saturday and Sunday. If any problem arises, please contact the duty cell phone at 913-306-0882 or Public Safety at 913-683-5201.
Student’s Responsibility for Housekeeping
All residential students are responsible for keeping residential living areas neat and clean. Students may be charged for excessive cleaning in public areas as well as for rooms not properly cleaned.
The Facilities Department employs full-time maintenance technicians to maintain university assets including residence halls. Maintenance technicians may enter residents’ rooms to perform routine repairs or improvements during regular university business hours. Maintenance technicians will not be on residential floors before 10 a.m. unless there is an emergency.
Routine and Emergency Maintenance
Maintenance requests or other room concerns (e.g., broken heater, problem with a lock, etc.) should be reported via email to Maintenance or the Residence Life Office in a timely manner. For emergency maintenance concerns, please contact Public Safety or the Residence Life Office. If repairs are not completed to your satisfactions (within one week for regular repairs or within one day for emergencies) notify the Residence Life Office at 913-758-6174. Maintenance problems should be reported early and with as much detail as possible in order to avoid damage charges.
