Please carefully review the Admission Criteria information below.  We also recommend that you review this Nursing CAS information before you begin your application. 

Apply Now at NursingCAS! Although, some sections of the NursingCAS application are marked “optional” please follow the guidelines below for University of Saint Mary requirements and note that your application will not be considered until ALL elements listed below as “Required” are completed and submitted.


 Accelerated BSN Admissions Criteria:

1.) Applicants must have a 3.00 grade point average.  Applicants must have a 2.50 or higher in all science coursework.
2.) All pre-requisite courses must be completed prior to June 1st.  All General Education courses must be completed prior to graduation from the nursing program.
3..) Pre-requisite courses are Biology w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Anatomy & Physiology w/lab (5-10 hrs), Microbiology (no lab required), College Algebra or Statistics, Intro to Psychology or Sociology, Public Speaking, Aging (Gerontology) and one of the following: Human Growth and Development, Health Psychology, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology.

 Nursing Application Steps: 

Allow 4-6 weeks for BSN application to be finalized.

Start the Nursing CAS application process on or before Nov. 1st in order to meet the Jan. 15th deadline!

1.) By Jan. 15, Complete the NursingCAS Application and all the University of Saint Mary application requirements specified in the NursingCAS Requirements section below.            
2.) Eligible applicants will be notified once their NursingCAS application has been reviewed.
3.) The TEAS test must be completed prior to Jan. 15th and will be given at USM.

 Items to be sent to NursingCAS

Official transcripts for all college level credit must be submitted directly to NursingCAS.  Applicants must submit all official transcripts to NursingCAS to complete the application process.  All official transcripts must be sent from the issuing institution’s registrar’s office directly to NursingCAS.  In order to expedite the processing be sure to include the Transcript Request Form.

All institutions that have been attended must be included even if you did not graduate from that institution.


Be sure to have a copy of your transcript(s) in hand in order to complete this section. All college level course work (including in-progress course work) must be entered into the application in this section. This is the most time-consuming part of the application process.


TEAS test will be given at USM starting 12/1/12. The application process (application & two letters) MUST be complete before the TEAS test is scheduled.

You must submit two professional references via NursingCAS. Be sure to include their title, address, and business telephone number in the Reference section of the application.  References are submitted electronically, so have the appropriate e-mail address.

Personal Statement

Tell the admission committee a little bit about yourself. Please include the following: why do you want to be a baccalaureate-prepared nurse?

Why have you chosen USM? What is your understanding of the rigors of the nursing track that you are applying for (ie: traditional or accelerated)?

What are your plans to manage your time and resources so you can successfully complete the nursing program? Is there anything else you want the admission committee to consider?

(You might want to explain incompletes, withdrawals, poor academic performance, if you are changing careers – why?, etc.)

In this section you will select University of Saint Mary’s program to apply to. Make sure you are selecting the correct term of entry. If University of Saint Mary is the only school you apply to through NursingCAS then you will be charged $45. If USM is the second school you apply to through NursingCAS then you be will charged $30.  Deadline for Accelerated BSN Application
Allow 4-6 weeks for your application to be finalized.

Start the Nursing CAS application process by or before November 1st in order to meet the January 15th deadline!

 Jan. 15. Do not wait until the last minute to submit your application. All official transcripts must be submitted to NursingCAS in order for your application to be processed and verified for review.
 Monitoring the Status of Your Application:
The “My Messages” section of the NursingCAS application will include any messages that NursingCAS or a school has sent to you. Please check your “My Messages” to see if you have received any vital information about your application. Messages will be sent to the “My Messages” inbox and your personal email address that you created your account with.
 Use the “Quick Status Menu” options to check to see if your Transcript(s), Reference(s), or Payment(s) have been received after you submit them. To check to see which Designations you have selected (in other words programs you have applied to) by clicking on the Designations option under the Quick Status menu. The GPA Calculations option under the Quick Status menu will display any GPA calculations NursingCAS has generated for you based on the coursework data you entered. Your application has been “verified” once your GPA Calculations are complete. Learn more about “verification”.
