(Leavenworth, Kan.)—Jim Zimmerman, director of the sport management program at the University of Saint Mary, has been elected chair of the governing council for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC)—a post he will assume in August.
The KCAC Governing Council meets three times a year to discuss new legislation of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as well as consider conference initiatives. As chair of the Governing Council, Zimmerman will also serve as a member of the KCAC Executive Committee.
“Being elected to this leadership role within the KCAC is truly an honor,” Zimmerman said. “I look forward to having a part in shaping the conference for the future. The KCAC is a highly respected conference nationally, and I look to continue to foster improvement in athletics while maintaining high academic integrity throughout the conference.”
Dr. Scott Crawford, KCAC commissioner, said “after serving for two years as vice-chair for the KCAC Governing Council, Jim Zimmerman is well prepared to assume the duties of the chair. Not only does Jim have a great understanding of the issues facing the KCAC, but also brings experience from the academic world as the Faculty Athletics Representative at the University of Saint Mary and the intercollegiate athletic realm as the former athletic director at Presentation College, which has recently returned to NAIA membership.
“I look forward to working with Jim and seeing him guide his peers on governance matters for the conference.”
Zimmerman, a Kansas native, joined the USM faculty in 2007. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University and went on to receive his Master’s in Sports Management at the United States Sports Academy. During his time at Presentation College, Zimmerman served as athletic director while also teaching. He has also coached several sports including men’s and women’s golf and men’s basketball.
