(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has named University of Saint Mary Volleyball Player Danielle Dowdy as KCAC Player of the Week and Setter of the Week in helping the Spires finish 3-0 last week.

Dowdy, a sophomore setter from DeSoto, Kan., finished the week with 110 assists, averaging 11 per game. Her highlights last week include a 45-assist, 13-dig effort in a four-game match against Avila (Mo.). Dowdy added 25 digs, three kills, and four service aces in the three Spires wins.

USM Head Volleyball Coach Sarah Johnson praised Dowdy’s play during last week’s contests.

“Danielle has been one of our leaders this season, and her efforts have been very commendable,” she said. “This is a young team that’s really starting to come together and play to its potential. Danielle’s work last week is a testament to that.”

The USM Volleyball Team is currently 2-2 in conference play on the 2013 season, and 7-8 overall. Up next for the Spires: a home game against conference opponent Ottawa University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Saint Mary has 12 varsity sports programs—football, volleyball, baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, cross country, and track & field—along with co-ed cheerleading and dance. Visit www.gospires.com to learn more about USM athletics.
