(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has named University of Saint Mary Cross Country athlete Brooks Ballou as KCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for his strong showing at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Pre-Nationals Meet at Rim Rock Farm on Saturday, Oct. 12

Ballou, a senior from Bonner Springs, Kan., was the highest KCAC finisher at the NAIA Pre-Nationals Meet, posting a time of 25:20 in the 8K and finishing seventh out of 272 runners. He finished nine spots ahead of the next highest conference runner, and his points earned for finishing in the top 10 led Saint Mary to a seventh place team finish out of a field of 30 teams.

USM Head Cross Country Coach David Dominguez praised Ballou’s efforts at the meet.

“Brooks should be proud of his performance, because it showed him that he is able to do great things at a national level,” Coach Dominguez said. “His winning player of the week is a huge accomplishment for both him and our program. His performance fed into the entire team’s success this weekend. I’m very proud of what he and the team accomplished.”

The USM Cross Country Team’s next meet is the NAIA Mid State Invite at Southwestern College on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Saint Mary has 12 varsity sports programs—football, volleyball, baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, cross country, and track & field—along with co-ed cheerleading and dance. Visit www.gospires.com to learn more about USM athletics.
