(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has named University of Saint Mary Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jon Bishop as the conference’s men’s hoops Coach of the Year and Spires senior Jordan Wilcox as Player of the Year.
The Spires, after finishing the year as KCAC regular season champions, also had several players named to KCAC All-Conference Teams.
Wilcox, a guard from Holcomb, Kan., was named to the All-KCAC First Team; Kevin Harvey, a senior guard from Athens, Texas, was named to the All-KCAC Second Team; and Chip Schneider, a senior forward from Tribune, Kan., was named to the All-KCAC Third Team. JEB Greenberg, a senior guard from Leavenworth, Kan., made the Honorable Mention list.
Coach Bishop praised his players, saying the Spires’ awards can be attributed to the team’s excellent efforts and level of play this season.
“I think this was a great accomplishment for Jordan in his senior year,” Coach Bishop said. “His play had a lot to do with how well our team did… He was very deserving. Jordan was the best player on the best team in the KCAC this year.”
Coach Bishop said his Coach of the Year honor is “a reflection on our team and our players and what we accomplished this year… I was given this award because my guys had a great year and because of all of the players in the program and the coaches on my staff.”
The top-seeded Spires Men’s Basketball Team is currently bound for the KCAC Championship Tournament. The first game is at home at USM’s Ryan Sports Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, against No. 8 McPherson.
