POSITION SUMMARY:


The Vice President of Student Life is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering the student life programs of the University. The VP supervises and coordinates the functions of the Athletics, Campus Counseling, Campus Ministry, Campus Security, Mission Effectiveness, Resident Life and Student Life.. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Works closely with students, staff, and faculty in developing a student life program that promotes students’ personal, spiritual and academic development that aligns with the university’s mission and promotes retention.

  • Serves on the President’s Administrative Council.

  • Advises the President and the Academic and Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees on issues pertaining to student affairs and athletics and supports their work.

  • Develops policies and procedures in the area of Student Life. Annually updates these policies in the student handbook.

  • Reviews all athletic policies yearly and insures the athletic handbook is updated.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, training and development of Student Life personnel

  • Oversees the recruitment, training and development of Athletic staff conducted by the athletic director.

  • Recommends to the President for approval and appointment the directors and managers under the jurisdiction of this Vice President of Student Life.

  • Oversees all official communication from Student Life and Athletics.

  • Promotes communication and cooperation between Student Life, Athletic, faculty and other staff in the university 

  • Oversees campus disciplinary processes and, when necessary, dismisses students in consultation with the president.

  • Assures USM representation in Student Affairs and Athletic associations

  • Reviews budget requests of assigned functional areas and submits to the President.

  • Creates and keeps current an Individual Development Plan (IDP) with the President.

  • Ensures assigned personnel and programs are evaluated annually.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS REQUIRED:


 

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred

  • At least 5 years related administrative experience

  • Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic Higher Education

  • Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary.

  • Knowledge of NCAA, NAIA or KCAC regulations.

  • Must be able to successfully pass required background screening as appropriate.
