Dr. Amanda Quantz brings a fresh and unique perspective to traditional courses in theology and pastoral ministry.
She brings the Christian Tradition to life through art, worship experiences and site visits.
She expects her students to be open-minded and to develop strong convictions about life, theology, and course material.
Her academic interests span the Middle Ages, Eastern Christianity, Christology, Dante’s Divine Comedy, religious art and the theory and practice of spiritual care. She takes students to Italy and Turkey to study Christian history and spirituality through art and architecture.
She has published a number of articles and book translations, and recently completed eight articles for the Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization (2011).
Dr. Quantz received her pastoral training as a chaplain at in an inner-city hospital in San Francisco. She is a past president of the American Theological Society.
Dr. Quantz joined USM in 2011, and holds a B.A. Religious Studies from the University of San Diego, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School; and a Ph.D. from the University of St. Michael’s College (Toronto).
